RESUSCITATION
REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING LETTERS: D.R.A.B.C.
D: DANGER Ensure that the scene is safe for yourself,
the casualty and others
R: RESPONSE Check the casualty's response by talk and touch.
If unresponsive, call 000
A: AIRWAY Ensure that the casualty's is open and clear
If obstructed, gently roll on to side and clear airway
Note. CAUTION IF SUSPECTED SPINAL INJURY
B: BREATHING Look, listen and feel for breathing.
If not breathing, commence mouth-to-mouth
Normally, give 2 breaths
C: COMPRESSIONS Check for pulse at neck or wrist
If unresponsive and not breathing
give 30 compressions
COMPRESSION GUIDE:
ADULT 9 years or older CHILD 1 to 8 years INFANT Less than 1 year
Use 2 hands Use 2 hands Use 2 fingers
Compress in the middle of the chest 1/3 the depth of the chest
Give 30 compressions at the rate of 100 per minute and then give 2 breaths
Repeat 30 compressions and 2 breath sequence.
ONCE RECOVERED, PLACE ON LEFT SIDE AND CALL AMBULANCE
NEVER GIVE UP !
